The Future
Greenwashing
Greenwashing is when a company or product makes a misleading claim about them being environmentally friendly or more environmentally friendly than they really are. In 1991 a study found that 58% of environmental ads had at least one false claim to being green. In 2002 the Greenwashing Academy awarded BP, ExxonMobil and the US Government for their greenwashing ads and for supporting greenwashing. Back in 2010 the Apple iPad was voted the top Greenwash of that year, this was because of the battery that was built into the iPad that could not be replaced therefore not recycled. In the same year, BP caused a 4.9 million barrels of crude oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico. This was devastating as it killed lots of marine life and it is still majorly affecting todays oceans.
