The Future

The Brief

On Monday we were given two new briefs that we can choose from to complete The Future project. One brief was given to us by a lady named Chlöe from Regen SW. This brief offered a reward of £250, profiled on the website power-culture.com, displayed at an Art and Energy symposium and The South West Green Energy awards and considered by The Institution for Civil Engineers for display in bus stops across the South West for meeting the criteria of:

• Considering an aspect of renewable energy or smart energy use

• Engages, questions, challenges, comforts, encourages or stimulates the audience

• Submitted in 2D format although you could photograph a 3D element

• Is delivered by the deadline: Wednesday 9th March

• A piece of 2D artwork/text that explores an aspect of sustainable energy must be created.

The second brief was given via video by a lady called Coral from The Devon Wildlife Trust. This brief asked you to focus on 1 of 5 different topics:

• Terrestrial Pollution (pollution coming from human activity on land)

• Plastic Pollution (from land and sea - entanglement and ingestion by marine life)

• Climate Change (sea level rise, sea temperature rise, non-native species)

• Over fishing (species declines, bycatch, ghost fishing gear)

• Protection of the Sea (why should we and how can we protect the sea?)

If you win this competition you will be invited to present your work to this year's Marine champions and local conservation organisations at the National Marine Aquarium.

After thoroughly reading through both briefs, I chose the second brief. I have always felt very seriously about plastic pollution and protection of the sea. Therefore I am going to work with the water and beaches to follow the brief.
