Photoshop Cosmetics

This morning we had a lecture all about fashion photography, something which i feel very passionate about. We also looked into how photographers retouch their images in Photoshop and we spoke about the digital ethics within photography. We watched the evolution video, created by Dove, which is all about how images are manipulated by the media.

By watching the video, it made me realise how easy it is for our perception of beauty to be distorted and manipulated. The video is all about a model who goes from being totally natural to becoming retouched using Photoshop. The video taught me how clever, lighting, make-up and digital manipulation distort my perception of beautiful women.

The evolution video was created in 2007 and had reached two million views on Youtube within the first two weeks. It is possible to completely transform an image so that it no longer reflects the shape, size or features of the original model. No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted.
